Firkin was created by a fine gentleman named Mike Collings. A legend of the industry with an incredible track record in whisky.
Responsible for the Johnnie Walker Blue & Green Labels, The Classic Malts, Rare Malts, Distillers Edition, Flora & Fauna series, Cardhu and Royal Lochnagar, Mr. Collings is well versed in conjuring up a fine dram. You're in good hands with this one!
Mike is many things, but sensible is by far not one of them. He likes to stir the pot and poke some good-natured fun at some of the more pretentious malts out there.
That's the beautiful thing about The Firkin Whisky Co. they don't take themselves too seriously. Life is for seriously good whisky, and when your single malt is this good, you don't need to be pretentious about it.
The Firkin Whisky Co are renowned for their unique approach to cask finishes. Each dram is perfected in their own custom made, double-oak casks, and then seasoned with a perfectly paired soulmate wine.
The custom cask used to finish this Firkin 49 was a combination of American first-fill Bourbon staves & new French Limousin oak staves, seasoned with a custom char and a combination of Oloroso and Amontillado sherries.
Sounds crazy right? These guys and their hand-built casks are just crazy enough to make it work.
Firkin 49 I hear you ask? No this isn't a 49 year old whisky, the name was chosen as both the distillery (Tullibardine in this case) and the good Mr. Collings were founded in 1949.
This delightful highland single malt was distilled back in 2012, at the foot of the Ochil Hills, the Tullibardine distillery, Perthshire.
Jam-packed with creamy butterscotch toffee, crisp malt and a fruity, oaky twist. Mixed with the beautiful and unique influence from the custom double-oak x double-sherry finish, results in a Firkin exceptional whisky!
