Ben Nevis (HP) 5: Pedro Ximenez Sherry Quarter Cask Finish
Sitting at the foot of Britain's tallest mountain, and sharing its name, Ben Nevis Distillery has been making whisky in Fort William since 1825. Its famously oily, robust Highland spirit has a cult following among independent bottlers, and its heavily peated spirit is a rare find.
This 5 year old was distilled in March 2021 from Ben Nevis's heavily peated spirit, then finished in a Pedro Ximénez sherry quarter cask. The small cask has done a lot of work in a short time, wrapping the smoke in dark, sticky sherry sweetness.
Expect cola bottles, pipe tobacco and charred wood up front, followed by cacao, dried cranberry and over-toasted marshmallows. Oily, smoky and full of character.
For the artwork, we've featured the Morgan 3 Wheeler, a hand-built British open-cockpit roadster that combines vintage-style aviation aesthetics with a modern 2L V-twin engine.
At Glaschu Spirits Co, we're passionate about two things. Great machines and great whisky. Just 90 bottles, at 50% ABV, with natural colour and no chill filtration. Slainte!
